The DSC 1832 shares the same programming as the 1616, and the 1864 as they are basically the same panel, with a different number of zones, etc. Default Installer code: 5555. Default Master code: 1234.

+ Entering programming mode

To enter programming mode, press * 8 then enter the installer code (default 5555). You should hear 3 beeps, one long beep means incorrect code.

+ Programming a DSC

However, the default Master code is does not work, and no one knows what the master code is. All I want is a user code (if I cannot reset the master code) to be able to turn the alarm on and off when we need to. The first step is Start where the process of adding, deleting or overwriting your alarm codes begins. To do that, press.5 on your keypad followed by the Master Code. If you have a new alarm model, the lock should show a red light. As for the older models, the armed light.

When programming a DSC you need to enter a 3-digit location number. Once in a location, you can either enter data or toggle the 8 options on/off. Pressing # will take you back out of the location and into 'programming limbo', where you can enter another location. Pressing * when programming data will change to Hexicidecimal input, this can be utilized when programming account numbers.

+ Exiting programming

To exit programming mode completely, you need to press # from 'programming limbo'. If you are in a location, just push # a couple times and you will get out.

+ Default the panel

This will revert all programming back to factory defaults. First you must power the panel down. Next, remove any wiring from the zone 1 terminal and the PGM 1 terminal. Get a short loop of wire and link zone 1 and PGM 1. Power the panel up and after 10 seconds everything should be defaulted and you can remove the wire loop. If not, the panel may be locked.

+ Zone wiring details

All hardwired zones can be either normally closed (no resistors), single EOL (with a 5.6K Ohm resistor), or double end of line (where you have two 5.6K Ohm resistors, one across the alarm contact and one in series with the tamper). To set the zone EOL resistor value, go to location 013:

  • 1 - ON = Normally closed zones (use no resistor, just closed loops)
  • 1 - OFF = Use resistor value set in option 2 below
  • 2 - ON = Double end of line (use one 5.6k Ohm Resistor)
  • 2 - OFF = Single end of line (use 2x 5.6k Ohm Resistors)

Fire zones must be wired differently. Regardless of how location 013 is programmed, a fire zone should have a 5.6K Ohm resistor wired across the normally open terminals so the fire alarm will short the resistor out when it is activated. Use zone type 08 for hardwired smoke detectors and 88 for wireless smoke detectors.

+ Programme a hardwired zone

To programme a hardwired zone, there are a couple of things that need to be setup.

  • You need a zone type LOCATION 001-002
  • The zone must be in a partition LOCATION 202-261 (toggle zone 1-8/9-16/17-24/25-32 on)
  • Zone attributes can be changed LOCATION 101-132 (depending on zone number)

Zones need a 2-digit zone type assigned for them to work. LOCATION 001 has slots for zones 1-16. As you programme each 2-digit zone type, it will jump to the next zone. When you finish all 16 zones in that location, it will leave the location. If you are only programming the 6 on board zones, just press # when you have programmed the last zone you wish. To skip a zone press the arrow key twice. The zone type will determine how the zone will work. LOCATION 002 has slots for zones 17-32.

*View all zone types

Assign the zone to a partition, by default only zones 1-8 are assigned to partition 1. Location 202 toggles zones 1-8 into partition 1, locations 202-261 toggles zones 9-32 into partitions 1-8, if you have enabled other partitions in location 201.

Zone attributes, can be changed to alter how the zone works. Each zone type has set attributes, but you can change them after you assign the zone type.

+ Programme a wireless zone

To set up a wireless zone, there are a few key things that need to be programmed. You can programme any of the first 16 zones to be wireless; although it's recommended to leave the onboard zones as you can utilize them later.

  • You need a zone type LOCATION 001-002
  • You must tell the panel the zone is wireless LOCATION 101 - 132 (depending on zone number)
  • The zone must be in a partition LOCATION 202/261 (toggle zones on)
  • You must programme in the ESN (electronic serial number) LOCATION 804 (followed by the 2-digit zone number)

Zone type is changed in location 001/002. Once in location 001 it will be looking for the 2-digit zone type of zone 1, so press the arrow key twice to skip each zone. When you are at your zone slot, enter the zone type you want to assign the wireless zone. If it's a fire zone, use zone type 88. You cannot use any of these zone types: 07, 08, 09, 29, or 30. Press # to leave zone types. Location 002 is for zones 17-32.

*View all zone types

Set zone to wireless in location 1XX, where XX is the zone number you are using. Use 109 for zone 9; if you were using zone 14, you would use location 114. Toggle number 8 on to set the zone to wireless.

Assign the zone to a partition, by default only zones 1-8 are assigned to partition 1. Location 202 toggles zones 1-8 into partition 1. Location 202-261 toggles zones 1-32 into partitions 1-8, as long as the partition is enabled in location 201.

Enroll the wireless zone by entering location 804. Once in location 804, enter the 2-digit zone number then the 6-digit ESN (electronic serial number) on the device. Press # to leave location 804.

Wireless module placement, enter location 904. Enter the 2-digit zone number. It is now awaiting your test. Make sure you take the device to where it will be installed and trip the sensor. The keypad will display 1 for good, 2 for ok, or 3 for bad.

+ Install a zone expander

Installer

Adding a zone expander onto the system is a 3 step process:

  • The expander must be addressed
  • The expander must be wired into the panel
  • You must perform a module reset

To address an expander set the jumpers as per the expander install manual.

Wire the expander into the 1832 as if it were a keypad. If you aren't using a tamper switch where the expander is installed then loop a wire between the tamper terminal and any zone common terminal.

Perform a module reset from inside programming mode. Enter LOCATION 902, you do not need to enter any data, just enter the location then press # to exit.

+ Delete a zone

Deleting a zone is a simple one step process. Changing the zone type to 00 will disable the zone.

LOCATION 001-002, zone types.

Once in location 001 it will be looking for the 2-digit zone type of zone 1, press the arrow key twice to skip each zone. Once at the zone you wish to delete, just enter 00 then press # to exit. Location 002 starts at zone 17 and goes to 32.

+ Keypad zones

Each keypad has a spare terminal that can be used as a keypad zone or output. For a zone, just wire the sensor loop across the P/Z and B terminals. If it's a powered device, you can also power it from the R and B, just make sure you are not drawing too much power. There are 2 things you need to programme to enable the keypad zone:

  • The keypad must be assigned a slot
  • The zone must be assigned to that slot

To assign the keypad slot, enter programming mode from the keypad you are setting up. Enter Location 000 for keypad programming then sub section 0. You now need to enter 2-digits, the first digit is the partition the keypad will be assigned to and the second digit is the slot the keypad is in; you can select slots 1-8. If there is more than one keypad on site, be sure they each have a different slot. Press # to leave keypad programming.

To assign a zone to that slot you must first pick a zone not in use (like with the wireless zones, you shouldn't pick zones 1-8 or you are short changing yourself a zone). From Location 020 you can enter that 2-digit zone number that will be assigned to keypad slot 1. If you didn't pick slot 1, then press the right key > twice to skip to slot 2, and so on, up to slot 8.

The zone is now setup as a keypad zone. Be sure to programme it as a hardwired zone, with a zone type and partition.

+ To change/add user codes

To change/add user codes, press *, 5, master code (default is 1234). This will get you into user programming mode. From here, you just need to enter a 2-digit user number, followed by the new 4-digit code number you wish to add. You can now enter another 2-digit user number or press # to exit.

+ To delete user codes

To delete user codes, press *, 5, master Code (default is 1234). This will get you into user programming mode. From here, you just need to enter the 2-digit user number you wish to remove, followed by *. This will delete the code from programming. You can now enter another 2-digit user number or press # to exit.

+ To change user code partitions

To change user code partitions, press *, 5, master code (default is 1234). This will get you into user programming mode. From here, press 98 then the 2-digit user number you wish to programme. The keypad will display the assigned partitions and you can toggle ON/OFF the partitions that are needed. You can now enter another 2-digit user number or press # to exit.

+ To change user code attributes

To change user code attributes, press *, 5, master code. This will get you into user programming mode. From here, press 99 then the 2-digit user number you wish to programme. Now toggle the 8 options ON/OFF.

  • Option 1: User has access to code programming
  • Option 2: User code will send a duress signal when used
  • Option 3: User has access to bypassing zones
  • Option 4: User can access the Escort 5580 module remotely
  • Option 5/6: Not used
  • Option 7: The bell output will squawk when this user arms/disarms
  • Option 8: User can only disarm the system once per day, resets at midnight

+ Lost codes

If you have lost the system master code, first try 1234. If that doesn't work you can recover or reset it from installer programming. Once in programming mode, go to Location 006 and either enter your new master code or use the right arrow to read out the current code. If you can't get into programming mode, you will have to default the panel.

If you have lost the system installer code, there is no way to access programming without it. Try 5555. If you have no luck, you will have to default the panel.

How To Reset Master Code On Dsc Alarm

+ Add a duress code

To add a duress code, first add a user code into an empty slot. I would recommend using a higher user slot so it doesn't accidentally get changed. Once you have added a user code, change the users attribute option 2 to set the code as a duress code.

+ Phone numbers

Location 301 is for the primary phone number the panel will dial. Press # at the end of your number. HEX digits can programme different things into the phone number. To toggle from decimal to hexadecimal programming, press *. Location 303 is for phone number 3 (the backup phone number).

  • HEX A = Not used
  • HEX B = Simulates a * press when dialing
  • HEX C = Simulates a # press when dialing
  • HEX D = Additional dial tone search
  • HEX E = 2 second pause
  • HEX F = End of phone number marker (for pagers, etc)

If you have no phone line wired in, turn telephone line monitoring off to avoid a fault. In Location 015 turn option 7 off.

+ Account numbers

When programming account numbers, there are 2 things to keep in mind:

  • If you are using any format other than SIA, a 0 in the account number must be programmed as a HEX A.
  • The system account number is looking for 6 digits. If you are only using 4, programme the last 2 as a HEX F.

Location 310 is where you programme the system account number.

Location 311/312 are for the partition account numbers, 311 is partition 1, 312 is partition 2.

+ Dialer options

Location 350 is the comms format. It's looking for 2x 2-digit entries for phone number 1 and 2. Programme 04, 04 if using SIA or 03, 03 if using Contact ID.

Location 380 first communication options:

  • 1 - ON = Dialer enabled 1 - OFF = Dialer disabled
  • 2 - ON = Restorals send when the bell times out 2 - OFF = Restorals follow zones
  • 3 - ON = Pulse dialing 3 - OFF = DTMF dialing
  • 4 - ON = Start pulse dialing after 5th attempt 4 - OFF = Always DTMF dialing
  • 5 - ON = 3rd phone number enabled 5 - OFF = 3rd phone number disabled
  • 6 - ON = Alternate between phone numbers 1 and 3 6 - OFF = Call 1st phone number and backup to 3rd
  • 7 - NOT USED
  • 8 - ON = Delinquency in hours 8 - OFF = Delinquency in days

Location 381 second communication options:

  • 1 - ON = Open after alarm, keypad ringback enabled 1 - OFF = Open after alarm, keypad ringback disabled
  • 2 - ON = Open after alarm, bell ringback enabled 2 - OFF = Open after alarm, bell ringback disabled
  • 3 - ON = SIA sends programmed reporting codes 3 - OFF = SIA sends automatic reporting codes
  • 4 - ON = Closing confirmation enabled 4 - OFF = Closing confirmation disabled
  • 5 - ON = Talk/listen on phones 1/3 5 - OFF = No talk/listen on phones 1/3
  • 6 - ON = Talk/listen on phone 2 6 - OFF = No talk/listen on phone 2
  • 7 - ON = Contact ID sends programmed reporting codes 7 - OFF = Contact ID sends automatic reporting codes
  • 8 - ON = Communications priority enabled 8 - OFF = Communications priority disabled

Location 382 third communication options:

  • 1 - ON = Contact ID partial closing identifier is “5” 1 - OFF = Contact ID partial closing identifier is “4”
  • 2 - ON = Alarm communications enabled during walk test 2 - OFF = Alarm communications disabled during walk test
  • 3 - ON = Communication cancelled message enabled 3 - OFF = Communication cancelled message disabled
  • 4 - ON = Call waiting cancel enabled 4 - OFF = Call waiting cancel disabled
  • 5 - ON = T-Link interface enabled (GSM) 5 - OFF = T-Link interface disabled
  • 6 - ON = AC delay transmission in hours 6 - OFF = AC delay transmission in minutes
  • 7 - ON = Only attempts 1 dial for residential dial 7 - OFF = Residential dial follows dial attempts counter
  • 8 - NOT USED

+ Openings/closings

To turn on openings/closings, you have to set up the communicator call directions for each partition. Turn 1 and 5 on for each partition that will report the arming/disarming. Location 367 is for partition 1, Location 368 is for partition 2, etc.

+ GSM

There are several GSMs available and compatible with this DSC. I recommend using the 3G3070 or the TL250 as they are both ULC approved.

The 3G3070 has several older models, such as the GS3060, the GS3055, etc. They simulate a phone line, so you just need to programme the system normally with your monitoring station's phone number and the correct account numbers. You can use this GSM if there is no phone line on site or as a backup means of communication, secondary to the land line. You can power the GSM with its own transformer and battery or power it from the alarm panel. If it is powered from the alarm panel, it will not need its own back up battery, so remove it and place the jumper link on the board.

The TL250 is different as it plugs directly into the DSC board. You still need to wire power to it. It is recommended to power it from the bell + terminal and the aux – terminal. The unit clips onto the steel box and obstructs part of the DSC board, so be sure to wire all zones and phones first. To enable the GSM, you must turn on option 5 in Location 382. You must also programme the phone number 1 (or phone number 3, if the GSM is backup) to dial “CAA”. The reporting format, Location 350, must be set to SIA, 04 04.

+ Faults

The trouble light will light up when there is a system fault present. The keypads will also beep twice every 10 seconds until the fault has been acknowledged.

To acknowledge the faults and view the trouble, press *, 2. An LCD keypad will show you the first fault on the system and you can scroll through to see if there are more. Other keypads will show a certain number, or numbers, which represent different issues shown below. If the keypad shows the fault as a 1, it is a service fault.

  • 1 - Service required, press 1 for service faults list (below)

+ Output configuration

Location 009 is where you can select a 2-digit output type for output 1 and then output 2.

Common output types:

  • 01 = Fire and burglary: Standard setup for a siren
  • 03 = Sensor reset: PGM always on, turns off for 5 seconds when user presses *, 7, 2
  • 05 = Armed status: Output will activate when the assigned partitions are all armed
  • 07 = Keypad buzzer follow: Will follow the door chime and entry/exit beeps

All output types:

+ Output partition assignment/timers

Location 170 is PGM output timer. Enter from 001 to 255 seconds. This is only valid for certain output types.

Location 551-564 is the partition assignment of each PGM. Location 551 is for PGM 1 and location 564 is for PGM 14. Simply toggle on to which partitions the PGM is assigned.

Location 501-514 is for PGM attributes. Similar to zones, PGMs have attributes that can be changed to customize the output. Each output type has customized preset attributes that you can alter to fit your install. Location 501 is for output 1. Location 502 is for output 2, etc.

+ Output wiring

There are 2 onboard PGMs, they both trigger negative when activated.

+ Arm the partition to away mode

Enter a user code (or press AWAY), then exit through an entry zone. Ready light must be on.

+ Disarm the partition

Enter a user code, when armed. The user code must be enabled for the partition.

+ Arm the partition to stay mode

Enter a user code (or press STAY), then do not trip an exit zone. Ready light must be on.

+ Bypass a zone

Press *, 1, 2-digit zone number, #.
Locations 015 turn option 5 ON and user code is required AFTER PRESSING *, 1.

+ Display troubles

Press *, 2 then match the number that displays.The trouble light will light up when there is a system fault present. The keypads will also beep twice every 10 seconds until the fault has been acknowledged.

+ Turn chime on/off

There are several ways to turn chime on or off depending on how your system is programmed:

  • Hold down number 3 for 4 seconds
  • Press *, 4
  • Hold down the button with the chime logo on it for 4 seconds.

+ View memory

Press *, 3. To clear the memory, arm and then disarm the partition.

+ Change user codes

Press *, 5, master code, user number, new code. See “Codes” above for full description.

+ Set the time and date

Press *, 6, master code, 1. Enter the time (24 hour), then the date. The date should be MM/DD/YY

+ To change partitions

Press and hold the # key for 5 seconds, then enter the partition number. Partition must be enabled in programming.

The DSC 1550 shares the same programming as the 1500 as they are basically the same panel, with a different number of zones, user codes, etc. Default Installer code: 1500. Default Master code: 1234.

From programming:Entering [30] will perform a software reset to the factory default values. Once this command is entered, the keypad buzzer will beep several times. The trouble LED will be on during the reset sequence.

If the installer code is forgotten and a software reset cannot be performed, the panel can be reset to the factory default values with the following method:

  1. Remove all power, AC and battery, from the panel.
  2. Short the pads on the panel labelled EEPROM RESET.
  3. While maintaining the short, power-up the panel and wait for at least 10 seconds before removing the short.
  4. Upon removal of the short, the keypad buzzer will beep and the panel will be reset to the factory default values.

+ Zone wiring details

Hardwired zones can be wired with a 1K Ohm resistor or as a normally closed loop. In LOCATION 12 toggling 5 on will set the zones for normally closed loops. Toggling 5 off will set the zones for end of line resistors.

+ Programme a hardwired zone

To programme a hardwired zone, you must assign it a zone type.

  • Zone type LOCATION 11

Zones need a 2-digit zone type assigned for them to work. LOCATION 11 has slots for zones 1-6. As you programme each 2-digit zone type, it will jump to the next zone. When you finish all 6 zones, it will leave the location. If you are only programming some of the zones, just press # when you have programmed the last zone you wish, to skip a zone press the arrow key twice. The zone type will determine how the zone will work.

Quick zones

  • 00 - Entry zone
  • 02 - Interior motion
  • 08 - Fire zone
  • 31 - Perimeter

First digit of zone type (0-3)

  • 0 - Slow zone response & audible
  • 1 - Slow zone response & silent
  • 2 - Fast zone response & silent
  • 3 - Fast zone response & audible

Second digit of zone type (0-8)

  • 0 - Delay zone
  • 1 - Instant zone
  • 2 - Interior zone
  • 3 - Interior zone, bypassed in stay mode
  • 4 - 24 hour bell, activates sirens any time zone is tripped
  • 5 - 24 hour bell, activates sirens when system is armed, activates keypad buzzer when system is disarmed
  • 6 - 24 hour bell, activates buzzer only when zone is tripped
  • 7 - Auxilary delay loop, works as a delay zone with a different delay
  • 8 - Fire zone

+ Delete a zone

Zones are always enabled and can't be deleted in programming. To remove a zone from the system short the zone/common terminal out in the panel with a 1K Ohm resistor.

+ To change the master code

To change the master code, press *, 5, master code (default is 1234), then press 1. Now enter the new 4-digit code you want to use as the master code. Press # to exit.

+ To change/add user codes

To change/add user codes, press *, 5, master code (default is 1234). Then enter the user number 1-6. 1 is the master code, 2-5 are regular codes and 6 is a one time use code. Once you have selected a user, enter the new 4-digit code number you wish to add. You can now enter another user number or press # to exit.

+ To delete user codes

To delete user codes, press *, 5, master code (default is 1234). This will get you into user programming mode. From here, you just need to enter the 1-digit user number you wish to remove (2-6), followed by 4 *'s. This will delete the code from programming. You can now enter another 1-digit user number or press # to exit.

To programme hexidecimal digits, press * to change to hex mode, now a 1 will progamme as an A, etc. Press * again to leave hex mode. Leaving the programming location also turns off hex mode.

  • 1 = A
  • 2 = B
  • 3 = C
  • 4 = D
  • 5 = E
  • 6 = F

+ Dialer options

Location 12 is where the dialer can be turned on and off. Toggling 1 on/off.

Location 23 is the communication format. You will need to input the correct reporting codes, depending on the format you choose.

+ Report codes

Programming Locations 05 - 10 are where you enter 2-digit report codes for various reporting scenarios. Monitoring stations can use different 4/2 format, so ask the central station for a correct reporting format map for your comms format. Enter 00 or FF to disable reporting for that section.

  • 05 = Zone alarm codes, 6x 2-digit entries for each of the zones (31, 32, etc)
  • 06 = Zone restoral codes, 6x 2-digit entries for each of the zones
  • 07 = Closing report codes, 6x 2-digit entries for each user (C1, C2, etc)
  • 08 = Opening report codes, 6x 2-digit entries for each user
  • 09 = Fire/panic alarms, 8x 2-digit entries

  • 01 = Ground start pulse: This option provides a 2-second output pulse before dialing begins to obtain the dial tone on ground start telephone equipment.
  • 02 = Keypad activated (no code required): Pressing * 7 will activate the output and keypad buzzer for 5 seconds.
  • 03 = Keypad activated (code required): Pressing * 7, user code, will activate the output and keypad buzzer for 5 seconds.
  • 04 = Smoke reset: Output is normally powered and will unpower for 5 seconds when * 7 is pressed.
  • 05 = Courtesy pulse: The output will follow the entry and exit times. It can be used to turn on a courtesy light near the exit door for the duration of the entry/exit times.
  • 06 = Follows keypad: The output will activate any time the keypad buzzer is on. Can be used for chime, but will also activate during entry/exit delays, etc.
  • 07 = Panel armed: Will activate when the panel is armed and won't turn off until panel is disarmed.
  • 08 = Alarm: Output activates whenever an alarm is activated and won't turn off until the panel is disarmed. Can be used for a strobe.
  • 09 = Failure to communicate: the output activates after the panel has failed to communicate 8 times in a row. It will stay activated until a successful communication has been made.
  • 0A = Follow entry delay: The output will stay on when the entry delay is active.
  • 0B = Folllow exit delay: The output will stay on when the exit delay is active.
  • 0C = LINKS1000 Interface: This option configures the system for use with the LINKS1000 cellular alarm communicator.

The PGM triggers negative when activated. Wire your device into AUX +, for positive and their negative feed into the PGM you want to activate it.

Enter a user code or press * 0, then exit through an entry zone. Ready light must be on.

Enter a user code when armed.

+ Arm the partition to stay mode

Enter a user Ccode or press * 0, then do not trip an exit zone. Ready light must be on.

Press *, 1, 1-digit zone number, #.

+ Display troubles

Press *, 2 then match the number that displays.The trouble light will light up when there is a system fault present. The keypads will also beep twice every 10 seconds until the fault has been acknowledged.

To acknowledge the faults and view the trouble, press *, 2. The keypad will show a certain number, or numbers, which represent different issues shown below.
